My narrative describes a luncheon that was hosted by the English Department for purposes of soliciting feedback from students in reference to the department's curriculum and transitions into the benefits gained from being an active member of the college community.
My narrative's audience is made up of a college staff and student body.
I hope my story expresses how important it is for students to take advantage of opportunities where their presence and input are requested.
When I first started writing the narrative, I referred back to the directive and the song, One Tin Soldier came to mind. I tried to find a connection with this song and my narrative and the only thing I could come up with was making assumptions. I know it's a far stretch of the imagination but I'll try to simplify it.
The Valley people assumed that there was treasure under the stone.
Many students and professors make alot of assumptions about each other. Some students assume that professors will be similar to each other in their teaching methods while professors assume that their students have similar foundations of knowledge. There are consequences associated with making assumptions and although they are not as deadly, like the lives of the mountain people in the song, they can be detrimental in terms of students' grades and professors' evaluations.
Assumptions can be easily avoided by communicating with each other and staying informed. These concepts are what I intended for my narrative to cover.
