Tony's Narrative

REMIX & COUNTER ARGUMENTS

1. The laws had to be passed because time again people have demonstrated by their misuse of the drugs that they can’t handle the responsibility. Drugs aren’t evil, people are. We suffer the consequences of the few who spoil it for everyone.

2. Addiction is an addiction. People who use marijuana can quickly become dependent on the drug, maybe Cannabis is nowhere near as addictive as nicotine or alcohol but it is not wrong to say that it is habit-forming. Marijuana use can and does have addictive and negative affects on a person’s physical, social and professional life.

According to Brown University, it is estimated that 10% to 14% of marijuana users will become heavily dependent. More than 120,000 people in the US seek treatment for marijuana addiction every year. Because the consequences of marijuana use can be subtle and insidious, it is more difficult to recognize signs of addiction. In addition, animal studies suggest marijuana causes physical dependence, and some people report withdrawal symptoms.

The negative effects of marijuana use include: memory loss, dizziness, distorted perception, trouble with thinking and problem solving, loss of motor skills, decrease in muscle strength, increased heart rate, anxiety and paranoia.

Smoking marijuana also weakens the immune system and raises the risk of cancer and lung infections. A Columbia University study found that a control group smoking a single marijuana cigarette every other day for a year had a white-blood-cell count that was 39 percent lower than normal, thus damaging the immune system and making the user far more susceptible to infection and sickness. There is increased risk of blood pressure and heart attack. There are sexual dysfunction and reproductive problems. Loss of motivation and interest in everyday activities and future plans

Marijuana is a dangerous, addictive drug that poses significant health threats not only to users but people around them. It’s found that many accidents particularly truck accidents are caused by drivers using marijuana as were caused by alcohol.

Marijuana users are far more likely to use other drugs like cocaine and heroin than non-marijuana users. Users can become dependent on marijuana to the point that they must seek treatment to stop abusing it.

Over the course of time, the habit eventually becomes your priority. The priority eventually becomes your life. For something containing so much potential power over our lives, perhaps it is best that certain substances remain unused.
