"Wikiwhat? I'm simply lost and confused. Help!"
I also panicked when I first began browsing through the pages of our class wiki, but it's really not as complicated as it seems. My understanding of a wiki is that it's very much like a book; basically, they both contain "pages" of information. The difference, however, is that the pages of a wiki can be added, edited, or even entirely erased by anyone with access to it. Don't worry, though; even if you totally screw up and erase an entire page, you can always go to "[history]" at the bottom left corner of the page and re-instate any previous incarnation of it by clicking on the desired date and time.
"How do I make my page and link to it from the class roster?"
1. Log in.
2. Create a new page and use your name (without spaces i.e. JohnDoe) for the name of the page. Add some information about yourself now if you'd like, or return to your page later and add it using the "Edit page" button.
3. Edit the class roster and add your name and contact information to the bottom of the page, below where others have already done so. Try to link your name to the page you created in the previous step (see "How do I create a link?" below). Please try not to delete anything, and be sure to click the "Save" button when you're done so that other people may add their information.
"How do I create a link?" (Note: This is for the Classic Mode editor ONLY!)
The most simple way to create a link to another page on the wiki is to write the name of the page.
For example, writing JohnDoe will automatically create the link JohnDoe.
The most simple way to create a link to a page not located on the wiki is to write (or copy/paste) the URL of the page.
For example, writing http://www.wikipedia.org will automatically create the link http://www.wikipedia.org.
To change the name of a link, use [URL or name of the page | what you want the name of the link to be]
For example, [http://www.wikipedia.org | The best wiki ever!] will create the link The best wiki ever!
And [JohnDoe | John Doe's Page] will create the link John Doe's Page.
"What is the difference between Classic Mode and Point and Click Mode?"
You can think of Classic Mode as essentially a basic word processor - with the additional ability to display HTML (though you certainly don't need to know HTML to use it effectively). Point and Click Mode seems very buggy and awkward at this point, and I'd suggest you avoid it for now.
"Where are the assignments? What do I do?"
Go to the CourseCalender and click on the link for the appropriate day of the week.
"I can't get my Creative Commons license to show up!"
First, you must click "Switch to Classic Mode" in the top right corner when editing your page before you paste in the HTML code generated by the CC Choose a License website. Second, you need to change style="border-width:0" to style="border-width: 0" or else your license will not show up. In case you can't tell the difference, there's a space between the colon and the zero in the corrected code.
"I don't see a solution to my problem. What now?"
Check out AskQuestionsProvideAnswers. If you still can't find an answer, feel free to edit both this page and/or that one to add your question.
"I resolved a problem I was having. May I add the solution to this page?"
Absolutely! By all means, please do so.
